1st place Miners run win streak to nine games
July 4th, 2013
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Rolando Celis was a picture of efficiency.
Celis held Slippery Rock to four hits over eight innings, Pat Kregeloh drove in two runs and the West Virginia Miners picked up their ninth straight win, 6-0 over the Sliders at Jack Critchfield Park.
Celis (1-2) struck out one and walked one in the shutout. He threw only 87 pitches.
“He kept the ball around the strike zone and pitched very efficiently,” West Virginia manager Tim Epling said. “He didn’t have many strikeouts but he got plenty of fly balls and ground balls.”
The Miners (21-12) scored three runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh. Kaeo Aliviado, Griffin Moore and Nick Paxton each had two of West Virginia’s 11 hits.
The teams will play again at 7:05 p.m. today. West Virginia, which leads Chillicothe by two games in the Prospect League East Division, will visit the Paints Saturday and Sunday before returning home Monday for a two-game set with Richmond.
